CA Manan Vasa founded Altus Corp at the age of 24. Not because he had a grand plan. But because he had a conviction formed early and held fiercely that the way most businesses were being 'helped' was fundamentally broken.
The Beginning
His articleship was completed at Bansi S. Mehta & Co. one of India's most respected CA firms, founded in 1958 by Mr. Bansidhar S. Mehta, a stalwart in Corporate Law and the Income Tax Act. There he worked on the corporate structures of the Aditya Birla Group and other prestigious Indian and global conglomerates.
He studied Sales and Marketing at IIM Calcutta and Project Management at IIM Kozhikode. He became a CFA Level 3 Candidate through the CFA Institute, USA. He was awarded a 100% Scholarship to study Being a Leader and the Effective Exercise of Leadership co-created by Werner Erhard and Professor Michael C. Jensen of Harvard Business School in Singapore and Abu Dhabi. He trained under this programme for over a decade and was appointed its Global Brand Ambassador. He became one of only 14 Mission Control Trainers worldwide and the youngest.
He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Mindfulness Based Counseling: Listening with Embodied Presence from the Just Being Center for Mindfulness and Presence, Pune jointly certified with St. Mira's College for Girls, Pune. He has been a lifelong Vipassana practitioner.
In his early years he had the privilege of being mentored by Utpal Sheth former Senior Partner and CEO of RARE Enterprises, the multi-billion dollar proprietary asset management firm of legendary investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. Sheth's philosophy of patience, conviction and long-term compounding became a foundation for how CA Manan Vasa thinks about building sustainable businesses.
The Question That Changed Everything
Mumbai. 6 PM on a Wednesday.
A machine parts manufacturing unit. An exhausted founder mid-fifties, phone in one hand, purchase order in the other doing three people's jobs at 6 PM on a Wednesday. Twelve people working for him. He was doing the work of all twelve.
